More than 350 guests attended an evening of dining and dancing at the recent Friends of Saint Anne’s Hospital annual Candlelight Ball at the Venus de Milo in Swansea, one of the group’s most successful fundraising events in its 48-year history.
Proceeds netting $79,368 from the Candlelight Ball will enable the Friends to complete their $500,000 pledge to help underwrite the Hudner Oncology Center's radiation therapy technology for cancer patients.
Grand Raffle winners at the event included:
* Ford Fusion one-year lease: Monte
Ferris, Fall River (Note: Mr. Ferris donated the car back to the
Friends, who included it as an additional live auction item, raising
$3,700)
* Sports Package: Jody & Curt Oliveira, Fall River
* New HampshireStay & Play: Lynn Marabello, Surgical Services,
Saint Anne’s Hospital
* Boston Shopping Spree Escape: Maggie Biszko, Tiverton, RI
* Dining Experience: Dr. Marilyn Miller, Hudner Oncology Center
at Saint Anne’s Hospital
* Say it With Flowers: Allen Krause, Fiscal Services at Saint
Anne’s Hospital
Decor planners Dale Ferris of Fall River and Ed Marques of Tiverton dazzled the ballroom in black and pink to create an elegant and unique contemporary atmosphere, reminiscent of a New York City dinner club.
Event chair and Friends President Janis Karam of Tiverton, RI, notes that proceeds from this year’s gala will enable the Friends of Saint Anne’s to complete their $500,000 pledge to help underwrite the Hudner Oncology Center’s new radiation therapy technology. Over the last six years, the Friends’ board, under Karam’s leadership, has raised nearly $850,000 for Saint Anne's Hospital.
"Each year, the Hudner Oncology Center provides the region’s most comprehensive care to more than 2,000 cancer patients,” says Karam. "Hudner has a history of being the first in the region to provide a variety of advanced, proven technologies. With the support of our community, the Friends are proud to be able to help the hospital continue its longtime commitment to making high-level cancer care available whenever it is needed."
Saint Anne’s Hospital President Michael Metzler noted that the event’s success was due in large part to the year-long effort by the Friends, and in particular, the ball’s organizing committee.
“The Friends continue to show
enormous enthusiasm and spirit for the community through the
Candlelight
Ball,” Metzler noted. “This event reflects their dedication
to the hospital and our mission of bringing quality care to our
community.”
